Nearly 24 years before, after passing my MDS, I joined Goverment Dental College and Hospital, Nagpur as lecturer in Periodontology. My job was to train the 3 rd year students with the case history evaluation, diagnosis and procedure. I used to take two undergraduate lectures per week. Lecturing with overhead projection was considered a very advanced technology in those days.

Today there is explosion of information via books, journals, e-journals, videos, websites, youtube, webinar, study clubs and if you don't get anything ask "god google" and you get lots of information. Despite these several resources we still see quality of education is going down. Are these modern day information resources somewhere keeping us away from the simple ways of learning?

Dental education industry is flooded with MDS applicants ready to join dental college for full time teaching with multiple applicants for a single post. How do we select the right candidate?

Should there be some formal training for the teaching faculty?

The most important thing is to invest in " Train the trainer" programme for improved teaching skills and you will see the new improved generation of dental students. India is leading dental industry in the world and to make it excellent all the management of dental college must invest in "Train the Trainer programme"
